Seeking Forgiveness and Repentance

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَسْتَغفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْيَوْمِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةٍ)).

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'By Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him more than seventy times a day.'

وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنِّي أَتُوبُ فِي الْيَوْمِ إِلَيْهِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ)).

He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'O people, repent to Allah, for I repent to Him a hundred times a day.'

وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((مَنْ قَالَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الْعَظيمَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَيُّ القَيّوُمُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ، غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ)).

He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Whoever says: I seek forgiveness of Allah the Mighty, besides Whom there is no god, the Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him — Allah will forgive him, even if he fled from the battlefield.'

وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الرَّبُّ مِنَ الْعَبْدِ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ الآخِرِ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِمَّنْ يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ فَكُنْ)).

He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'The nearest that the Lord is to His servant is in the latter part of the night, so if you are able to be among those who remember Allah at that hour, then do so.'

وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ فَأَكثِرُوا الدُّعَاءَ)).

He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'The servant is nearest to his Lord when he is prostrating, so make abundant supplication.'

وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((إِنَّهُ لَيُغَانُ عَلَى قَلْبِي وَإِنِّي لأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ فِي الْيَوْمِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ)).

He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'My heart becomes veiled, so I seek forgiveness of Allah a hundred times a day.'
